When it comes to printing graphics on t-shirts, not all methods are created equal. At The Flat Creek Shop, we use both DTF (Direct to Film) and sublimation printing — but for very different reasons. Here's a breakdown of each so you know exactly what you're getting and why it matters.
What Is DTF Printing?
DTF (Direct to Film) printing involves printing a design onto a special film, then heat-transferring it onto the fabric. It works on virtually any fabric color or type, produces vibrant, detailed prints, and holds up well over time with proper care.
We use DTF for most of our graphic tees — it gives us the flexibility to print bold, detailed designs on dark and light shirts alike. You'll find DTF prints across our Throwback Vibes and FarmHouse Favorites collections.
What Is Sublimation Printing?
Sublimation printing uses heat to infuse dye directly into the fabric. The result is a print that's part of the shirt itself — it won't crack, peel, or fade the way surface prints can. The trade-off: sublimation only works on light-colored, polyester-based fabrics.
Which Is Right for You?
If you want a custom tee with a bold graphic on any color shirt, DTF is the way to go. If you want an all-over print on a light polyester shirt with incredible color vibrancy, sublimation is your best bet.
